About the Symposium
The National CNS Symposium,
is an annual symposium that hosts 150-200 delegates, including PhD students, medical students, trainees, PIs and consultants from all over the nation and from abroad.
We have organised a great programme ahead, featuring an excellent selection of speakers from across Neuroscience, Neurology, and Neurosurgery. On top of this, we will be running workshops and give students an opportunity to present their research!

Model the human brain in 3D with STEMdiff ™ Cerebral Organoid Kit and our brain-region-specific organoid kits. Use BrainPhys ™ Neuronal Medium to culture active neurons in a physiological environment. Try NeuroCult ™ media and supplements for primary and CNS-derived neural stem cells. For human neurological disease modeling, the STEMdiff ™ Neural System supports your iPS-neural workflow, from neural induction to downstream differentiation. Visit the STEMCELL booth to learn more.

Our aim is to understand the nervous system in both health and disease in order to develop new treatments for incurable neurological disorders. Embedded within Cambridge University Hospitals, our research aims to solve problems we have encountered in the clinic, and directly address the needs of patients and families. Working in close partnership with the Departments of Psychiatry, Genetics and Paediatrics, we use innovative cross-cutting technologies which link the laboratory and the clinic to unravel the mechanisms of brain disease that impact from childhood to old-age. We use genetics and genomics, to study rare and common neurological diseases, cell biology and human stem cells, model organisms, and state-of-the-art human brain imaging through the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, which we host along with a UK Dementia Research Institute centre.
New treatments, tested in the clinic, are now in use world-wide. These include; immunological treatments against brain inflammation including multiple sclerosis; surgical and metabolic interventions to reduce the impact of head injury; understanding the causes and consequences of stroke; preventing the loss of vision and hearing; and developing new treatments to stop neurodegeneration and dementias including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
